夢（dream）是大家每天都要做的，晚上做的夢，和白天做的夢。白天做的夢是夢想，是對未來的想法和目標。

一個人有遠大的夢想是好事，但如果切實可行的條件，那夢想就如同煙霧一樣虛無飄渺了。這時我們可以使用以下英語表達：

a pipe dream

19世紀很多人有抽鴉片的壞習慣，鴉片是通過長長的煙槍（pipe）吸食的，而吸了鴉片的人，精神會處于一種迷幻的狀態(tài)，誤以為自己能做到很多的事。所說這個習語就來自于吸鴉片后的幻想（the fantasies brought about by the smoking of opium）。

當然，現(xiàn)在這個習語與鴉片沒有關(guān)系了，它通常用于指某人的夢想或計劃無法實現(xiàn)，只是“白日夢；幻想；空想”。

Her plans for a movie career
are just a pipe dream.

她計劃進入電影來，這只能是個夢想。

He always has this pipe dream
about being a pop star.
