電影的情節(jié)是：年輕女子（瓊·芳登 Joan Fontaine 飾）初遇曼德利主人德文特（勞倫斯·奧利弗 Laurence Olivier 飾）是在海邊的懸崖邊上。她以為德文特要跳海自盡，大叫一聲，讓德文特生氣不已。然而，接下來的二人相識(shí)繼而相知的經(jīng)歷讓他們墮入愛河，結(jié)為伉儷，女子成為了曼德利莊園的女主人。
