把娃扔進(jìn)國(guó)際學(xué)校的“坑”到底值得不值得|國(guó)際學(xué)校|擇校

  2020年的這個(gè)寒假漫長(zhǎng)而特殊,孩子問我們最多的一句話:“爸爸媽媽,我們什么時(shí)候開學(xué)?我想回學(xué)校上課了,我想老師和同學(xué)了。”

  窗外,春光明媚,楊柳青青,鶯飛草長(zhǎng),正是“一年之計(jì)在于春”的好時(shí)光。盡管我們努力給予孩子溫暖的陪伴,但孩子每天最想念的,還是她的校園生活……

  當(dāng)初在給孩子選擇學(xué)校,我們糾結(jié)了很多,最后還是在Lily三年級(jí)結(jié)束時(shí)選擇了國(guó)際學(xué)校,選擇了青苗??吹絃ily這兩年的變化,看到她對(duì)學(xué)校的這份依戀,我們?nèi)缃窈芎V定:當(dāng)初的選擇是正確的!

  我們?yōu)楹⒆釉谡Z(yǔ)言和課程的進(jìn)步感到高興,為孩子的逐漸變化開朗的性格感到欣慰,為孩子不斷開闊的創(chuàng)造性思維感到驚喜。如今回頭再看過渡期時(shí)期陪娃爬過的那些“坑”,無論是我們還是Lily,皆會(huì)慶幸一切都值得吧!

  場(chǎng)景復(fù)盤一

  【問題】:

  轉(zhuǎn)學(xué)前孩子在公立學(xué)校挺喜歡英語(yǔ)的,不過還是會(huì)擔(dān)心地問我們:“爸爸媽媽,聽說新學(xué)校都是外國(guó)老師,我怕聽不懂?!?/p>

  “不用怕,我以前學(xué)外語(yǔ)也聽不懂,腦瓜子嗡嗡響,一年以后我就發(fā)現(xiàn)自己神奇地聽懂了!你比爸爸聰明的多,爸爸相信你一定很快就能適應(yīng)!”

  雖說我們嘴上一直在給孩子打氣,心里不免也有顧慮:畢竟孩子有些靦腆和內(nèi)向,怕她中途退縮不適應(yīng)。

  【答 案】:

  果然不出所料,四年級(jí)剛開始,前期全英文的課基本聽不懂?!罢n上懵圈課下恍惚”,我們作家長(zhǎng)的真是看在眼里急在心上。

  但老師們一直很耐心地幫助她、鼓勵(lì)她,同學(xué)們也很熱心地帶動(dòng)她勇敢表達(dá)自己的觀點(diǎn)。減消了心里的迷茫和膽怯,Lily開始對(duì)這一切有了更多的向往和歸屬感。

  第一學(xué)年結(jié)束時(shí),Lily基本上已經(jīng)完全放下了語(yǔ)言帶來的緊張和不安,看著她與老師同學(xué)們互動(dòng)交流增多,關(guān)系也日漸親密,整個(gè)人的狀態(tài)變得愈加活潑輕松起來。我們平日與她討論的話題好像也從以前的“分?jǐn)?shù)至上”變得開闊和多樣了,生活里經(jīng)??匆娝_心的笑容和自信的模樣。

  我們相信并且無比感謝,是學(xué)校和老師們給予了她足夠的愛、關(guān)心與支持,多方面正向鼓勵(lì)引導(dǎo)她逐步克服了這些困難,才迎來屬于孩子自己的一次全新綻放!

  場(chǎng)景復(fù)盤二

  【問題】:

  如果說語(yǔ)言是Lily遇到的第一個(gè)挑戰(zhàn),那么“學(xué)習(xí)方法”和“思維方式”是她需要面對(duì)的第二大考驗(yàn)。(可能也是對(duì)家長(zhǎng)的巨大考驗(yàn)?。?/p>

  “爸爸,我們今天布置的作業(yè)是用三個(gè)途徑解答這個(gè)熱帶雨林生態(tài)系統(tǒng)的問題,老師說可以查網(wǎng)絡(luò)、查閱圖書、問父母……”

  “來來來,爸爸和你一起上網(wǎng)查資料!”隔著屏幕是不是都能感受到我的心虛和緊張?

  【答案】:

  國(guó)際學(xué)校的課程設(shè)置和作業(yè)方式,我的理解是一種開放型、探究型、合作型和創(chuàng)新型的模式。每個(gè)學(xué)期的課程,會(huì)圍繞7-8個(gè)中心話題展開,老師講課的路徑大概是“知識(shí)-實(shí)踐-總結(jié)-反思”,作業(yè)本身沒有統(tǒng)一的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)答案,個(gè)人學(xué)習(xí)的成果大多以“小論文”的形式提交給老師,沒有任何束縛和限制,可謂“八仙過海,各顯神通”。

  剛開始,孩子顯然不太適應(yīng),面對(duì)沒有標(biāo)準(zhǔn)答案的作業(yè)感到無從下手、無話可說,思考維度也比較單一,加上英文能力有限,每次只能寫出一兩點(diǎn)。但是如今,隨著這些思維訓(xùn)練的增加,她獨(dú)立解決問題的能力已經(jīng)大大提高。就在上學(xué)期的成績(jī)報(bào)告單上,不僅各科都能達(dá)到標(biāo)準(zhǔn)要求,部分課程還獲得了“優(yōu)秀”!

  這兩天,她正在和同學(xué)一起積極準(zhǔn)備五年級(jí)的畢業(yè)設(shè)計(jì)展,看她和同學(xué)通過網(wǎng)絡(luò)視頻一起討論探索,尋找相關(guān)知識(shí)和材料,每天忙得不亦樂乎,我也越發(fā)踏實(shí)和放心!這樣新穎、開放的的學(xué)習(xí)方法和作業(yè)形式,確實(shí)真正調(diào)動(dòng)了孩子們的探索精神和學(xué)習(xí)興趣!

  總之,在這短短兩年不到的時(shí)間,從各個(gè)方面我們都看到了LILY積極的變化。看著她愈發(fā)陽(yáng)光、健康、自信和向上,回頭再看當(dāng)初困惑著我們和孩子的那些問題,我想說:謝謝青苗,用時(shí)間給了我們最好的答案!

  During this extra-long winter vacation of 2020, many parents keep hearing 'When do I go back to school? I miss my teachers and friends.’ from their little ones.

  It’s springtime, the best season of the year. No matter how much we enjoy spending time with our children, they still miss their school time.

  Selecting school for my daughter was not easy. But now I’m happy for my decision to transfer Lily to BIBS in G3.

  I’m happy to her progress not only on language skills and courses, but also on her personality and creative thinking ability.

  Scenario 1

  【Problem】

  Lily liked English during her public school time, but still, she was worried that she may not understand the foreign teachers in BIBS.

  “No worries my dear. I used to speak very little English too but it only me a year to catch up. You are much smarter than daddy and you will only do better.”

  Having said that to Lily, we kept concerns to ourselves. We were very worried that she may give up.

  【Solution】

  Not surprisingly, Lily didn’t understand most of her English classes. We were extremely worried.

  But her teachers were very patient and encouraging, her students tried their best to help her too. Gradually, Lily overcame her fears and tried to be better day by day.

  By the end of the first semester, Lily was no longer shy when communicating with her teachers and classmates. She made more friends and became relaxed. Now she is interested in more diversified topics than test scores, and is happy and confident in her life.

  I strongly believe it was the love, care and support from her school and her teachers that has helped overcome her challenges and become who she is today.

  Scenario 2

  【Problem】

  If language was Lily’s first challenge, learning methods and way of thinking were her second obstacle. (For parents too!)

  “Dad, my homework today is to solve the problems of rainforest ecosystems. I can search online, look up in books or ask my parents…”

  “OK! Let’s look on the internet!” Had to raise my voice to cover my tension.

  【Solution】

  The courses and homework from international schools are more open, inquiry-based and creative. Courses of each semester usually focus on 7-9 topics, and teachers often follow the 'knowledge-practice-conclusion-reflection’ path. There are no standard answers, and the achievements of individual learning are usually presented to teachers in essays. No limitation, no restriction, just imagination and creativity.

  Lily was lost in the beginning. She didn’t know where to start, and her mind was a little narrow too. Her English ability was another factor. But she has improved a lot now, with all the practice and trying. In last semester’s transcript, Lily completed all courses and even received A in some of them.

  She is busy with her G5 exhibition with her classmates this week. They discuss over internet and search knowledge and material online. I’m very happy to see her devoting into this project. This new and open learning model has truly inspired my daughter’s interesting and passion.

There has been a lot of changes to Lily in the past 2 years. She is sunny, healthy and positive teenager now. I want to thank BIBS for such brilliant turn-out.
