1 鼠——Rat

smell a rat，表示人們懷疑在做錯某事

a rat race表示激烈的競爭 
rats desert a sinking ship

（船沉鼠先逃，這一諺語意指那些一遇到危險就爭先尋求安全或一看見困難便躲得老遠的人。）

2 ?！狾x

Ox－eyed形容眼睛大的人；

The black Ox has trod on sb's foot

表示災(zāi)禍已降臨到某人頭上。

3 虎——Tiger
have a tiger by the tail---騎虎難下

ride the tiger表示以非常不確定或危險的方式生活。

put a tiger in your tank----如虎添翼

paper tiger----紙老虎　　

4 兔——Hare
make a hare of sb.愚弄 某人。
start a hare。在討論中提出無關(guān)問題。

例如：
You start a hare ever time at the meeting.　

每次討論你都提出無關(guān)的問題。
First catch your hare.　

勿謀之過早（意指：不要過于樂觀）。
 You cannot run with the hare and hunt with hounde.　

不能兩面討好（意指：不要耍兩面派）。

5 龍——Dragon

（dragon在英文多有邪惡之意,而中國龍則是吉祥神圣的。所以近年來，中國龍經(jīng)常被翻譯為'Loong'，和dragon區(qū)別開。）

6 蛇——Snake

snake 除了表示蛇，本身還可以表示冷酷陰險的人。例如：
David's behavior should him to be a snake.　

（大衛(wèi)的行為表明他是個冷酷陰險的人。）

7 馬——Horse
work like a horse. 辛苦的勞作
horse doctor. 獸醫(yī)、庸醫(yī)
get on the high horse. 擺架子，目空一切。

dark horse. 競爭中出人意料的獲勝者。

例如：The voters were surprised when the dark horse won the nomination.

那個無名小卒在競爭中獲勝時，投票者無不大吃一驚。

8 羊——Sheep
As well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb. 

偷羊偷羔都是絞死。/偷大偷小都是賊 。意指：一不做，二不休。

關(guān)于羊年，我們除了說 sheep, 有時也可以說 ram(公羊)

9 猴——Monkey

money可以直接做動詞，表示胡鬧。

例如：
Stop monkeying about with the TV set !

不要瞎弄電視機！
put sb's monkey up.使某人生氣，激怒某人。
make a monkey of 愚弄 
a monkey with a long tail 抵押 
get the monkey off 戒除吸毒惡習(xí) 
have a monkey on one's back 毒癮很深 

10 雞——Cock
Cock of the walk / school 支配別人的人。
a cock of the loft / dunghill 在小天地中稱王稱霸的人
Live like fighting cocke 生活很好，尤指吃得好
Cock - and - bull story 荒誕的故事， 無稽之談

11 狗——Dog
You dirty dog ! 你這個壞小子！
a lucky dog 幸運兒
a dumb dog 沉默不語的人
a sly dog 暗中尋歡的人和暗地里偷雞摸狗的人

12 豬——Boar
在英語中boar一詞指未閹割的公豬和公野豬，英語中涉及豬的詞語有pig（豬、小豬、野豬），hog（食用豬），sow（牝豬），swine（豬：舊用法）。表示生肖時用boar 。
