羅蘭李（Roland Lee）1949年出生于南加州。1971年在楊百翰大學與威廉惠特克學習插圖和平面設(shè)計，畢業(yè)后和奈麗羅杰斯結(jié)婚，回到南加州時，他已取得設(shè)計師和插畫的成功。隨著第一個孩子出生，大城市的繁忙喧囂讓他和娜莉決定回猶他州南部老家。1973年，他們搬到猶他州圣喬治，在這開了一家小藝術(shù)工作室。1976年賣掉了藝術(shù)工作室，到迪克西州立學院教任教美術(shù)課。隨著對透明水彩認真研究，他決定放棄教書踏上了全職畫家的路途。
