一.decide/decision的用法

  decide是動詞  ,常用于decide to do

  decision是名詞  ,常用于make a decision/make decisions    make ones own decision

  Eg: Should I allow to make my own decisions? 應(yīng)該允許我自己做決定嗎?

  Who decided to go to England? = Who made a decision to go to England?

二.But sometimes these can get in the way of their schoolwork, and parents might worry about their success at school.但是有時這些愛好會妨礙功課,父母可能擔(dān)心他們在學(xué)業(yè)上的成功。

get in the way of...意思是“____________________”,與be in the way of 同義。

eg. Playing computer games can get in the way of his study.

動詞,意為失敗,不及格。 當(dāng)fail作及物動詞時,后接名詞、代詞或不定式;當(dāng)fail作不及物動詞時,后接in,再接賓語。

1fail意為失敗時,其反義詞是succeed,意為成功;fail意為不及格時,其反義詞是pass,意為及格;通過

2fail的名詞是failure,其反義詞是success。

.sometimes意為有時,表頻率。

sometime指未來的某時; some time 指一段時間;some times指幾次,常用 several times代替。

巧記sometimes, some times, sometime, some time口訣

  分開是一段”(some time),相連為某時”(sometime);分開s倍、次”(some times),相連s有時sometimes

這種結(jié)構(gòu)還可以表示“遭遇到某事”,通常是令人不快的事件;多指“某人偷了,弄壞或破壞了屬于你的東西”。如:

regret doing  something對做過的事遺憾、后悔。 動詞-ing的動作已發(fā)生。如:
I don't regret telling her what I thought.

誤:The teacher is strict to his teachers.

比較:be strict in something意為“對某事嚴(yán)格要求 ”。如:
 He is strict with himself in everything.

當(dāng)表示橫向跨過一條河流、街道等時,用across。如:

through

誤:I practice to play basketball every day.

解析:意為“訓(xùn)練;練習(xí)” ,用作及物動詞,后跟名詞、代詞或動詞-ing形式,不可以跟動詞不定式。如:

He is practicing the piano now. 他正在練鋼琴。

You must practice speaking English more. 你必須多練習(xí)講英語。

They are practicing singing the new song. 他們在練習(xí)唱那首新歌。

Practice作“練習(xí)”解也可以用作名詞,不可數(shù)。如:

With practice he could speak French fluently. 通過練習(xí)他能把法語講得很流利了。

誤:I don’t agree your idea at all.

解析:agree“同意”,是不及物動詞,后面不能直接跟賓語,它的后面常跟介詞with,表示“同意……”,“與……一致”,with后面跟指人或表示意見的詞。如:

He doesn’t agree with me. 他不同意我的意見。

I agree with what you said. 我同意你說的話。

十四. 那男孩太小,搬不動那只箱子。

誤:The boy is too young not to carry the heavy box.

解析:too…to…的意思是“太……(以致)不能(做)” ,這個句型雖然沒有否定詞,但表示否定意義,不宜再與表示否定意義的副詞not連用。如:

The water is too hot to drink. 水太燙了,不能喝。

He is too old to work. 他年紀(jì)太大了,不能工作。
