City》這首歌寫的是舊金山及其腐敗，也有些人認為這首歌描寫了Axl Rose和Izzy
Stradlin的家鄉(xiāng)Lafayette（印第安納州）及附近的普渡大學校園。1988年的采訪中Axl告訴Hit
Parader（雜志）“《Paradise City》的主歌更接近叢林生活；副歌像回到了美國中西部這樣的地方”（the verses are more
about being in the jungle; the chorus is like being back in the Midwest or
somewhere）。鼓手Matt Sorum，盡管歌曲創(chuàng)作時并未入隊，透露這首歌是關(guān)于愛爾蘭的。另一些人相信這首歌寫的是日內(nèi)瓦湖，因為創(chuàng)作《毀滅的欲望》時樂隊成員在湖邊租了間房子。
《Paradise
City》在VH1四十首史上最佳金屬歌曲榜上排列第二十一，在Total
Guitar雜志的史上最佳100首solo榜上排列第三，這首歌曲贏得了不少類似的榮譽，它還在滾石雜志評出的史上最佳五百首歌曲中排列第四百五十三。
Slash曾表示《Paradise City》是他最愛的槍花歌曲。 《Paradise
City》的最后兩分鐘速度加快了一倍，副歌重復了許多次，背景是Slash的吉他solo。
Hanoi
Rocks的吉他手Andy McCoy說這首歌是Hanoi Rocks幾支riff的翻奏，他說《Paradise City》的副歌與《Lost in the
City》的riff一摸一樣，只不過速度慢了些。Axl Rose也常常提起Hanoi Rocks是影響槍花最大的樂隊。《Paradise
City》的主riff（大量使用半音）也被其他前槍花成員在新企劃中運用，如Izzy Stradlin的《Bomb》和Velvet Revolver的《Do it
for the Kids》。
槍花前吉他手SLASH在自傳中這樣說：
一次從舊金山演出回LA的小巴上，另一首槍花的經(jīng)典誕生了。我們都坐在租來的小巴里，喝著酒玩著木吉他。我隨意的撥了幾個挺酷的和弦調(diào)調(diào)，馬上IZZY和DUFF跟著我一快彈，我加入了幾個和弦變化，一直不斷的彈這幾句，馬上腦子里出現(xiàn)了一個旋律就哼了起來。這時AXL張嘴了，‘TAKE ME DOWN TO THE PARADISE CITY （帶我去那天堂之城）’，我自己隨口而出 ‘WHERE THE GRASS IS GREEN AND THE GIRLS ARE PRETTY（那的草也綠，姑娘也漂亮）’但我覺得我編的那段挺GAY的，呵呵。 AXL又重復了第一部分，我馬上吼道‘WHERE THE GIRLS ARE FAT AND THEY GOT BIG TITTIES （那的姑娘又肥，奶子又大）’但是所有樂隊成員一致投票決定‘綠草’的那段更好，我投的‘大奶’一票就無效了。在回LA的車上，我們一點一點把整首歌的輪廓都敲定了。當我們遠遠的可以看到LA市中心的高樓遠景時，歌的RIFF也出來了，就在那個時刻，PARADISE CITY就成了我最喜歡的搶花的歌?！?/span> Take me down To the paradise city Where the grass is green And the girls are pretty Take me home (back vocals) I want you please take me home (x 2) Just a' urchin livin' under the street I'm a hard case that's tough
