1. 表示“總 (的)”，注意以下用法： (1) 常見修飾的名詞有。如： the general population 總?cè)丝?/p> thegeneral line 總路線 a general manager 總經(jīng)理 general editor總編輯，主編 general strike 總罷工 general mobilization 總動員 general policy 總方針 general comment 總評 generalrules 總則 the general branch 總支部 the general plan 總計劃 (2) 有時譯為“大”。如： a general elction 大選 a general meet-ing 全體大會 the UN General Assembly 聯(lián)合國大會 the generalsituation 大局 general idea 大意，大概 (3) 與職位名詞連用，通常置于其后，意為“總…”、“…長”。如： Secretary General 秘書長 Postmaster General 郵政總長，郵務(wù)部長 a consult general 總領(lǐng)事 但也有個別的情況是置于職位名詞之前。如： a general manager 總經(jīng)理 General Secrectary 總書記 2. 表示“普遍的”、“公眾的”、“一般的”等義，主要用作定語。常見搭配有。如： the general public 公眾，一般公眾 the generalfeeling 多數(shù)人的感覺 general education 普通教育 generalknowledge 一般性知識，常識 general impression 大致印象 thegeneral idea 大概的想法 有時也用作表語。如： The fog was general. 到處都是霧。 Rainyweather is general in June. 六月一般都是下雨的天氣。 1. 注意不要因漢語習(xí)慣的影響，誤用 from： (1) 自1990年以來他直住在這里。 正：He has lived here since 1990. 誤：He has lived here from 1990. (2) 太陽從東方升起，從西方落下。 正：The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. 誤：The sun rises from in the east and sets from the west. (3) 展覽會將從星期三開始。 正：The exhibition will begin on Monday. 誤：The exhibition will begin from Monday. (from www.nmet168.com) 2. 其后可接副詞或介詞短語。如： It’s a short distance from here. 從這兒去不遠(yuǎn)。 The cat jumped out from under the bed. 貓從床底下跳出來。 He chose three from among these books. 他從這些書當(dāng)中選了3本。 正因為可接介詞短語作賓語，所以下面這句中的 from where 就不難理解了。如： He hid himself in a tree, from where he could seethe ememy in the distance. 他躲在一棵樹上，從那兒他可以看到遠(yuǎn)處的敵人 (句中from where=from in the tree, 這里的 where不能改用 which)。 3. 從今天起多久以后 ，用“一段時間+from today ” 。如： Threeweeks from today is a holiday. 從今天起放三周假。 I’ll comeback a month from today. 我下個月的今天回來。 4. 關(guān)于 from…to…： (1) 用于時間、地點(diǎn)、變化、數(shù)目等。如： I worked there from Mayto August. 我從5月至8月在那兒工作。 They flew from Paris toRome. 他們坐飛機(jī)從巴黎到羅馬。 There’re from sixty to eightypeople present. 出席的有60至80人。 Things went rapidly frombad to worse. 情況很快變得越來越糟。 (2) 用于時間時，可用 from…till, until, through。如： We workfrom Monday to [till, until, through] Friday. 我們從星期一工作到星期五。 但是若沒有 from 則不能用 to。如： I stayed there till [until, through, up to] September. 一直到九月我都住在那兒。 (3) 用于下列習(xí)語 (注意：名詞前不用冠詞)。如： from side to side 從一邊到另一邊，左右 from house to house 挨家挨戶 from handto hand 從一人之手到他人之手 from door to door挨家挨戶 fromtime to time 不時地 from west to east 從西向東 from shop toshop 逐店 from day to day 一天天地 from head to foot從頭至腳，全身 from beginning to end 從頭至尾 from hand to mouth賺一點(diǎn)吃一點(diǎn)，僅能糊口 from morning to night 從早到晚 |
