Making a thicker foil as replacement seems the best solution to solve the clearance problem of the LCD module. However, sometimes, this will not work for many reasons.

The customers are not able to open the enclosure; actually the manufacturer even doesn't want them to open it. Just imagine you would be a customer who bought an iPhone. Then it turns out that there is a problem with the touch and Apple recommends that you open the enclosure and insert a foil. Nobody would like this at all and a replacement is required. Of course, there are some other problems: 
1. A foil of thickness of 1mm is needed because the thickness difference between old and new display module is approx. 1mm
2. Currently, such a foil is not available. We don't have this foil.
3. The touch sensitivity will become worse.

The only way is to rework all shipped products, on our expense. That we have to rework a brand new product won't look very good for our reputation.

An important question for the customers is this:
Will the LCD module manufacturer again change the design in the future again without notifying the customer or can the customers trust that the display modules stay as they are and that the LCD module manufacturer notifies the customers in advance in case of any changes?
