數(shù)日前與幾位朋友聊起各自心目中最喜愛的歌，有人提到披頭士（Beatles）的《昨日》（Yesterday）與《嘿，朱弟》（Hey　Jude）；有人提到西蒙和加芬客（Simon&Garfunkel）的《靜之聲》（The　sound　of　silence）
　　和《斯卡堡集市》（Scarborough　fair）。不過最后大家終于同意到一首幾乎是所有人的最愛：老鷹樂隊（Eagles）的加州旅館（Hotel　California）。

　　然而我把加州旅館的歌詞翻出來后，發(fā)覺盡管這首歌曾經(jīng)聽了無數(shù)遍，它的歌詞并不是那么好理解的。即使在整個網(wǎng)絡(luò)中，加州旅館到底指的是什么，是實物還是象征？這個問題在老鷹迷中也還是沒有定論的。 　　先讓我們聽一聽這歌，看一看歌詞吧。

　　你或許已經(jīng)發(fā)現(xiàn)了，有些中文的譯文并不準確，我將譯文列在這里，正是想講講其中一些失誤的地方，有的是明顯的理解錯誤，而有的地方則確實是原文太晦澀了。

　　〉冷風(fēng)吹著我的頭發(fā)

　　desert：同時有荒涼無人地和沙漠的兩個意思，在這里應(yīng)該直接譯成沙漠更恰當(dāng)。這首歌講的是發(fā)生在南加州的故事，沙漠是南加州的風(fēng)景特點之一。
　　黑夜沙漠的公路上
　　涼風(fēng)掠入我的頭發(fā)

　　〉Warm smell of colitas,rising up through the air
　　〉濃烈的烤煙味道
　　〉散發(fā)在空氣中

　　colitas：被譯為烤煙，我不知道譯者從那里得到這個解釋的，卻可算是錯打錯著了。這個詞在英文字典中沒有解釋，因為這不是一個英文詞。這是一個西班牙語，南加州與墨西哥近鄰，所以西班牙語?；祀s在口語中。cola　在西班牙語中指尾巴（tail），colitas　是復(fù)數(shù)名詞，意思是小尾巴們（little　tails）。在七十年代，大麻的苞蕾被戲稱為小尾巴，所以在這里colitas應(yīng)該是隱指大麻的。大麻稱著烤煙也可算是一個戲稱。
　　烤煙的溫暖氣息，

　　head　grew　heavy　是疲累的狀態(tài)，同時也是吸食大麻會出現(xiàn)的一個現(xiàn)象。

　　薄涼紗雖然是tiffany的字典翻譯，其實在這里并不應(yīng)該這樣翻譯。
　　Tiffany　用作大寫，是做專用名詞用，這是很出名的法國藝術(shù)品。它有兩種含義，一是Tiffany　珠寶，香港翻譯成第凡尼，其在全球都是收集的熱品；另一種含義是Tiffany的玻璃藝術(shù)品，這已經(jīng)發(fā)展成為玻璃品的一種流派。這個詞兩個意思的來源是兩個名為Tiffany　的法國人。
　　在這里，Tiffany　應(yīng)該是取玻璃制品的意思。通過烈火熔化后的玻璃邊吹邊轉(zhuǎn)動，冷卻后自然留下的旋轉(zhuǎn)的痕跡。
　　作詞者明顯在這一句進行wordplay（玩弄字詞），因為下面的墨西迪奔馳，并不是用原來的商標Mercedes　Benz，將Benz　改成bends，正是為了twist　和bend　都有彎曲之意，這很類似中文中對仗互偶的文字游戲。
　　Some dance to remember，這里也譯錯了。some　在這里不是作為限定詞來修飾dance　。dance　在這里是動詞，而some　是代詞，作主語。所以這句應(yīng)該是“有些人跳舞是為了去記住。”
