We study spoken English so as to make oral communications, so this order of importance of oral English study should be followed: Fluency, Accuracy, and Appropriateness. That is to say, we have to pay more attention to practical communicating ability instead of only laying emphasis on the grammatical correctness. (2).Try to find some partners practicing oral English together and English corner is a good place as where we may exchange English study experience, widen our sight and improve interest in English. (3). If English partners are not easy to get, then we have to create an English environment ourselves by speaking English to ourselves. *(4).This method is very effective and easy to insist on-- interpreting Chinese-English novels or books. First we read the Chinese parts and then try to interpret them into English and then compare our interpretation with the original versions in the novels or books so that we can find out the mistakes, shortcomings and progresses in our interpretation. (5). Interpreting what you hear---Changing Roles: Three people make a group: one speaks Chinese, one speaks English acting as the foreigner, one acts as interpreter. Then change roles. This is a good interpreting training method and is good for studying from one another. In addition, it may improve the responding ability and speed of students. The advanced stage of this method is simultaneous interpretation. (6). Oral composition and 3-minute training method: This method is suitable for intense training. Making an oral composition about a certain topic for one minute the first time and record the composition on tape at the same time. Then listen to the composition and find out the room for improvement. Then make the same composition for two minutes for the second time and also record it. And at last repeat the above-mentioned for three minutes. (7). Retelling exercise: Retell some articles or English stories in our own words. (8). If possible, we may read some English tongue twisters loudly and quickly with one or two cakes of candy in our mouth (just as the Chinese cross-talk actors do.) to train our oral cavity muscle and tongues suitable for English pronunciation. 例如: ☆A big black bug bit the back of a big black bear. The big black bear bit back the big black bug. ☆This fish has a thin fin; That fish has a fat fin; This fish is a fish that has a thinner fin than that fish. (9). Paying more attention to phrases and small words as one major shortcoming of Chinese English (especially Chinese oral English) is that Chinese students tend to use big words in their oral language, but the idiomatic oral English is abundant with short, active and vivid phrases. And most of such phrases are made of small words. (10) Thinking in English. (11). Oral English has its own features, but it is closely combined with other aspects of English, for example, writing may make oral English precise and accurate. She lights up my life. I‘m crazy about her. I‘m so in love with her. My heart is set on him. I adore him. My heart beat speeds up at the sight of him. You laughed at the sight of his strange clothes. That‘s a piece of cake That‘s as easy as pie! Do you have anything to say? Thing will work out It will work out Everything will be fine (小辮子)被抓到了 you caught me 我早就知道了 I‘m fully(well) aware of that You don‘t have to tell me I wasn‘t born yesterday Beats me You got me You got that right I can‘t hack this (hack 是完成任務(wù)的俗語) 你到底要說什么? Don‘t beat around the bush Get to the point What are you try to say? 你以為你是誰? who do you think you are? Off 的妙用 1. I am off today. 一講到上班或是工作, 許多人的直覺反應(yīng)就是 work, 所以 "我今天不用上班" 這句話說出來很容易就變成 "I don‘t have to work today." 例如 "I am off." 就是我不上班, 而 "We are off today." . 2.She lives off campus. 另外要是有老美跟你說, "I live off Buford Highway." 這就是 off the road 的正確用法啦. 3. Off my sofa. 簡簡單單, 就是 "Off my sofa." 完整的講法其實應(yīng)該是 "Keep off my sofa." 或是 "Keep away from my sofa." 但是單講 "Off my sofa." 許多 off 的用法其實都是從 keep off 或是 get off 演變過來的. 4. Tell her the whole thing is off. 有人要我去通知另一個人球賽已經(jīng)取消了, 他就是這么跟我說的, "Tell her the whole thing is off." 5. I am off the hook now. 以前小笨霖的室友最喜歡用這個成語了, 例如考試剛考完, 他就會說, "I am off the hook now." 或是把女朋友送走之后, 他也喜歡說, "I am off the hook now." 6. My girlfriend and I have been on and off, on and off several times. 在婚禮之前 Rachel 就很感傷地說, "I am Ross have been on and off, on and off; but I feel someday we will be on." 7. Hands off. 也就完全等于 keep your hands off the food 的意思. I am off to bed right now. I‘m off to bed 這種用法遠比單說 go to bed 要來得傳神, 因為 off 本身就有休息的意思在內(nèi), 所以 off to bed 更能反映出上床是要去休息, 而不是上床去作愛作的事. 9. You got $20 off your first purchase. 10. Could you off my computer? 介紹最后一種 off 的慣用法, 就是老美常會把 turn off 簡稱 off, 例如 off my computer 就是指關(guān)上我的計算機. 不過奇怪的是, turn off 可以簡略成 off, turn on 就沒有人簡稱 on 的. 1. Do you have any pet peeve? 所以就有老美跟我說過, “Everybody has his pet peeve.” 例如我就常聽老美抱怨, “Don’t you think he is annoying?” Maybe I’m going out on a limb, but I think we still have to invest it. 一般人想到冒險, 直覺的反應(yīng)就是:“It’s risky” 或是 “It’s dangerous.” 但是囗語上老美喜歡說,“I’m going out on a limb.” 這種不確定的危機感, 就是為什麼老美要用 “Go out on a limb.” 例如你來到一個清澈的河邊, 你很想下去游泳, 但四周又沒有救生員, 這時你就可以說, “Maybe I’m going out on a limb, but I think I am gonna try it.” 3. I don’t have skeleton in my closet. 當然最簡單的說法就是“I don’t have any secret in the past.” 但是這樣的說法不如俚語的用法 “I don’t have skeleton in my closet” 來得傳神。 這件考試作弊就變成是你的 skeleton in the closet。 例如有次我室友不讓我進他房里, 我就用這句話虧他,“Do you have any skeleton in your room?” 4. Are you sure you are going to set us up? 正確的說法應(yīng)該用 set up 這個片語, 例如 set you up 就是幫你制造機會的意思。 I can fix you up.” 5. Probably. It’s still up in the air. “I haven’t made my mind yet.” 或是 “We’ll see.”就可以了, 不然的話你也可以小小地賣弄一下英文, “It’s up in the air.” 另外 “It’s up in the air.” 例如別人問你, “Are you dating Jennifer now?” 你就可以答, “It’s up in the air.” Okay. Just checking. Check 當動詞用是一般指 “檢查” 而言, 例如你想進來時可能忘了關(guān)門, 你就可以說, “Go check if the door is still open.” (反正是無關(guān)痛癢) 這時你可以說, “Just a though.”; “Just an idea.” 7. Do we need to hit a shower first? 這就代表 “Let’s go.” 8. That’s OK. ?你答,“That’s OK.” 記得有一次老美來我家作客, 我問他, “Do you need something to drink?” 他說 “That’s OK.” 就表示 “I’m fine.” I don’t need anything to drink.” 9. Just right place, right time. 所以我也開始不單說, “I’m just lucky.” 了。 例如后來有一次老美問我為什麼我有免費的 T 恤可拿, 我就很瀟灑地回答他, “Just right place, right time, no big deal.” 10. Same here. 甚至有些人還會說, “So do I.” 但是說真的, 老美是會說, “me too.” I have to go to bed now.” 所以這個 “same here.” 例如最有名的例子, 在第六感生死戀 (Ghost) 里, Demi Moore 和 Patrick Swayze 的對話, “I love you.” “Ditto.” |
